They All Saw a...Reflection!

Exploring and making observations about simple, everyday objects and activities can be a science lesson for your young child. However, if a slightly more structured approach is what you are looking for, check out this story and accompanying activity to get your child looking around for reflective surfaces.

They All Saw a Cat by Brendan Wenzel is full of topics for conversation, so need to stop there! Some other things to consider:
  • Ask your child: How do you think the child feels when he sees the cat? How do you think the mouse feels? What makes you think so?
  • The author depicts how the bee sees the cat using only dots. Create artwork using dot markers, hole punch circles, or circular stickers.
  • Research with your child how animals see things. The story Stellaluna by Janell Cannon does a great job describing how bats see in the dark.
